History of Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame

The Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame Foundation was established in January of 2010. After dialogue exploring the need for a Kentucky Veteran of the Year Award, it was determined that such a project of inducting only one veteran would be virtually impossible...hence the idea to form a Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame was brought to light since such a foundation did not exist in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This was the motivation to create such an entity.

In the spring of 2012 a proposed bill was submitted to the Kentucky Senate and was passed by unanimous vote. The bill did not reach the House of Representatives for their vote, so a new resolution will be re-submitted in very soon.

In the near future, the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame shall seek legislative authority to establish the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame and, with that, we hope to have support of veteran's service organizations and the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs in our quest to recognize the worthiest of veteran candidates.

On March 11 and 12, 2014 the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame celebrated it's inaugural Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremony @ the Capital Plaza Hotel in Frankfort. Inducting 4 living Medal of Honor recipients, 20 Kentucky Veterans and 3 deceased Kentucky Veterans.

Miss America 2000, Heather French Henry spoke at the Gala Dinner on the first day. Secretary of State, Alison Lundergan Grimes spoke at the Induction ceremony on the second day. Dr. Edward Hughes, president of Gateway Community and Technical College also spoke at the induction ceremony on the second day.

On September 25th and 26th, 2015 the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame celebrated it's second Gala Dinner on Friday night and ceremony on Saturday. Both days were celebrated at the Frankfort Convention Center. Both days were spectacular and 25 Veterans were inducted. One deceased veteran, Bob Flick was inducted and represented by wife Sue and family.

The third annual KVHOF induction ceremony was held at the Frankfort Convention Center in Frankfort, KY on September 16th & 17th, 2016.

The BIG event was a huge success for the class of 2017 Inductees on September 28th, 29th and 30th 2017 at the Frankfort Convention Center, Frankfort, Kentucky.

Another GREAT ceremony for the class of 2018 was a huge success in Lexington, KY at the Marriott Griffin Gate Center on September 6,7,8.

The Class of 2019 was inducted in Lexington, KY at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort on September 6 & 7th, 2019.

We received our 501 (c) 3 status January 2014.

H.B. Deatherage

Founder & Executive Director

H. B. is Founder and Executive Director of the Kentucky Veteran's Hall of Fame (KVHOF) and has been at the helm of the foundation since the day in early 2010 when the idea was just a vision.

As a Vietnam Veteran, H.B. knows all about visions and missions. Many years after returning home from his service to our country, his mission was to build a veterans memorial in the city of Florence, KY. Deatherage, who grew up in Boone County and owns a Florence business, garnered the city's approval in 1995 to erect the monument on 44 city-owned acres on Ewing Boulevard, where a new city building was planned. Although the monument was to be located in Florence, this veteran pointed out that the memorial is for everyone who wants to pause and "pay homage to the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who were killed in the line of duty". The finishing touches to the monument were completed during the Memorial Day ceremony in May 2011 when the POW/MIA monument was dedicated to the Boone County Veterans Memorial site......H.B. now has completed the final portion of his "veteran's vision" with the first induction ceremony which was held in Frankfort Kentucky in March 2014 of the Kentucky Veterans' Hall of Fame.
